Studio Art Major

Studio art majors will graduate with experience across a substantial number of studio disciplines and develop a strong creative direction of their choosing. Digital art students use electronic arts either as a primary creative mode or as adjunct to other art processes. Student work changes with technology but may include still and moving images, sound, web-based, and interactive projects. The study of photography will include both silver-based and digital techniques. Art history and seminar courses anchor this program, which culminates in the Senior Show, for which the students create, produce, install, promote, and present a collection of their original work.

Employment Opportunities

Many art-related careers await studio art majors. Some may earn a living through production of work for galleries and private benefactors. Others may elect arts management and administration career paths with public or private agencies. Museums also employ art graduates as curators, administrators, collection registrars, educational directors, exhibit designers and technicians, membership coordinators, volunteer and docent coordinators, store managers, publicists, and editors. Teaching in community education programs; recreational, residential, and health agencies; community art centers; and private schools may also attract students. Those wishing to teach at a public college or university will be well prepared to apply to graduate programs in order to obtain the necessary Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree.

Students may also wish to explore art related careers at http://www.iseek.org/sv/12000.jsp?code=03.
