Current

Read through these procedures carefully. If you have questions,
please call UMR Student Services at 507-280-2824 or 1-800-947-0117;

(1) Prepare to Register
- Check the table below for registration dates
to determine the date and time, if applicable on which you may
enroll.
- Clear any holds on your record.
A hold may be imposed for financial indebtedness to the University
(e.g., for unpaid tuition or fees, unpaid library fines, or
delinquent health service payments) or for disciplinary or
scholastic reasons. You will usually be notified of an existing
or impending hold by the department or office authorizing
the hold.
If you have a hold on your record, you may not enroll or,
in many cases, obtain transcripts until that hold is cleared
with the office imposing the hold.
Notice of a hold, including the name of the department or
office where it may be cleared, can be obtained at:

Fees
Students will also have the option of paying their bill online with

after the deadlines (see Academic Calendar).

Changes
in Enrollment
All changes in enrollment must be done officially. Deadlines
exist for all changes in enrollment, including withdrawing from
a class, adding, or making changes to enrollment grade base (A-F,
S-N, or audit).
How to Withdraw/Add a Course
To change your course load or to withdraw from a course, you must
complete a Registration and Add/Cancel form. Instructors are not
authorized to accept or approve any changes in enrollment.
- Obtain a form:
- Visit UMR Student Services
- Call UMR at 507-280-2824 or 1-800-947-0117
- Download the form
- Return the completed form:
- In person at UMR Student Services
- Fax to: UMR Student Services at 507-280-2839
- Mail to: Student Services, University of Minnesota
Rochester, 111 South Broadway, Rochester, MN 55904
Financial Aid Note: Students receiving financial aid should contact
One Stop Student Services at 612-624-1111 before withdrawing as
changes in credit load affect eligibility. Refunds may revert to
the Office of Student Finance (OSF) or students may be obligated
for all financial aid awarded. Veterans enrolled under the G.I.
Bill must notify the Veterans Certification Office, 200 Fraser Hall,
106 Pleasant Street S.E., Minneapolis, MN 55455 (Telephone: 612-625-8076)
when withdrawing from or adding classes. Refer to Financial
Aid Recipients for more information.
When to Withdraw/Add a Course
You may change your registration at One
Stop any time prior to the beginning of the semester and through
the first week of the semester. If you decide before the session
begins not to attend, withdraw before the first day of classes.
If you stop attending class for any reason, withdraw immediately.
Any requests for changes in enrollment are effective the date the
official request is received, not on the date you stopped attending
class. Refer to the Refund and Drop/Add Schedule.
Withdrawal Policies
All-University policies on cancel/adds apply to all students in
all colleges.
- There is no transcript record of an individual course withdrawn
during the first two weeks of the semester. Withdrawals after
the first two weeks of the semester will result in a W, indicating
“withdrawal” on your record. If you withdraw all courses
during the first two weeks, a notation of cancellation will appear
on your record, although no W's will be recorded. If you simply
stop attending a class and do not withdraw officially, you will
receive an F or N grade.
- Each student may, once during his or her undergraduate enrollment,
withdraw from a course without college approval, and receive the
transcript symbol W, after the eighth week of class and at any
time up to and including the last day of class for that course.
Complete grading policies may be found online at http://www.fpd.finop.umn.edu/groups/senate/documents/policy/gradingpolicy.html.
- On occasion, a course may be cancelled by the department offering
the course. Contact your UMR program director immediately to see
if other arrangements have been made. If no arrangements exist,
the course will be removed from your record, thereby resulting
in a change of registration.
Billing Information
- Additional Charges
Students who wish to withdraw or add after an initial enrollment
may be subject to additional charges. You must pay for any course
for which you enroll unless you officially withdraw during the
100% refund period. You must pay for any portion of the course
for which you do not receive a monetary credit. You will receive
billing statements from Student Accounts Receivable for tuition
and fees, including additional billing charges. If you fail to
pay by the due date on your billing statement, a hold will be
placed on your record.
Full tuition is charged on a per-credit basis for all changes
in enrollment that increase your credit load, except for those
credits that fall within graduate and professional tuition plateaus.
No additional tuition is charged when any course addition is
balanced at the same time by a course withdrawal, i.e., a withdrawal
equal to the number of credits being added or a withdrawal and
course addition that keeps the total number of credits within
graduate and professional tuition plateaus. (Credit for Independent
and Distance Learning (IDL) courses, however, do not qualify
for any plateau or band rates that may be available in undergraduate
or graduate tuition plans.)
- Assessment or Credit
Any assessment or credit amount that results from a change in
enrollment is posted to your account at Student Accounts Receivable.
New assessments will appear on your next billing statement or
you may check your account at http://onestop.umn.edu.
Refunds are issued on a per-credit basis according to the refund
rate that applies to the date of cancellation. There is no refund
for those credits that fall within any tuition plateaus or bands.
Active Military Duty Cancellation Policy
Detailed information may be found at http://onestop.umn.edu/onestop/Registration/Changing/Active_Military_Duty_Cancellation_Policy.html.

Graduate
School Information
Students who intend to pursue graduate-level course work should
be familiar with the information in the Graduate School catalog.
Contact a UMR program director for specific registration information.
A Graduate School catalog may be requested online at http://www.grad.umn.edu
or by calling the Graduate School Admissions Office at 612-625-3014.
All students in the Graduate School must register both fall and
spring terms to remain in active status, rather than once a year
as previously required. Students who need to register only to maintain
their active status may register for Grad 0999, which is a no-fee,
no-credit option. Online registration for Grad 0999 is accepted,
and no special permission numbers or overrides are required. All
University registration deadlines apply.
Students should not register for Grad 0999 if their registration
is required to hold an assistantship, maintain legal visa status,
defer loans, receive financial aid, or for anything other than the
Graduate School's active status requirement.
Refunds
A full refund of all tuition and course-related fees will be made
when a course is cancelled. Refunds are based on the date you officially
withdraw, not the date you stopped attending class. Withdraw immediately
if you stop attending class for any reason. Refer to the Refund
and Drop/Add Schedule below.
NOTE: UMR reserves the right to cancel, postpone, limit enrollment,
split, or combine classes, and to change instructors and/or locations
of courses.
