In September 2007, Stephen Lehmkuhle came to the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) as the first Chancellor of the University of Minnesota coordinate campus. Chancellor Lehmkuhle came to Rochester from the University of Missouri system, where he served as vice president for academic affairs, the senior vice president for academic affairs, and also served briefly as the interim chancellor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Lehmkuhle earned his Ph.D. in experimental psychology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. During his career he has held academic positions at the University of Virginia, Brown University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

As the Rochester Chancellor, Dr. Lehmkuhle is responsible for the academic, executive, and administrative leadership of the campus, for facilitating, nurturing, coordinating, and supporting the work of the faculty, students, and staff, and for representing Rochester within the University and with the community, the state, region, legislature, and public and private sectors.

The Chancellor’s achievements since arriving at the University of Minnesota Rochester include the development of the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI), approval of an all university degree program in Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology (BICB), approval and development of the first complete bachelor’s degree, a BS in Health Sciences, which is delivered exclusively and entirely in Rochester, as well as working with the city and community partners in developing a master campus plan for the future of UMR.
