Jay Hesley
works in a variety of areas to support the University of Minnesota
Rochester (UMR). Primarily his focus is to coordinate all marketing
and communications activities for UMR. This includes working with
the marketing team on web, printed, and computer based materials
that support the promotion of the university and the all educational
services.
Acting as the program director for business, Hesley is responsible
for all programs related to business and management. This includes
operations components of the M.B.A. program offered in Rochester
and three certificates of applied business. Hesley is also responsible
for new academic program development in the area of business.

Areas of Expertise:
Hesley has nearly 15 years of experience in marketing, promotions,
and economics. His specialty is marketing program evaluation and
strategic planning. Prior to his current position at the University,
Hesley owned and operated the Rochester Consulting Group. RCG focused
on international marketing program evaluation. Prior to this initiative,
he was International Marketing Director for the National Sunflower
Association. In total, Hesley has conducted business, marketing
programs, and strategic evaluations and assessments in more than
30 countries.
Prior to coming to UMR, Hesley was an adjunct professor for St
Mary’s University of Minnesota (SMU). At SMU, Hesley taught
undergraduate and graduate courses in international economics and
finance, marketing, international business environments, and marketing
analysis.
Research:
Hesley’s graduate research focused on international market
segmentation. Research methods focused on the use of discriminate
and cluster analysis in looking at the progressive growth of international
agricultural markets.
