Post-Bulletin: Rochester Sales Tax Debated

Is the Rochester local-option sales tax a slush fund supporting a kind of city planners’ wish list or is it a necessary funding source for projects critical to the community’s future vitality and quality of life?

That was the main question hotly argued Thursday night throughout a debate sponsored by ABC 6 News/KAAL-TV, the Rochester League of Women Voters and Rochester Community and Technical College.

About 150 people showed up to watch the hour-long event in RCTC’s Hill Theatre.

On Nov. 6, Rochester citizens will vote on whether to reauthorize the half-cent sales tax, which has been in effect since 1983 ...
