Web Dezign Gizmozz for Technokidzz (GRADES 6-9)
There's an App for That! (GRADES 9-12)

For the 12th year, University of Minnesota Rochester and IBM will sponsor two five-day computer programming workshops for high school and middle school students entering grades 6 - 12 this coming fall.

The workshops are designed for teens interested in exploring their career options or for those who just want to have fun learning! Both workshops will consist of a week-long summer program, a tour of IBM, and in-class assistance from IBM volunteers.

Brand new this year, "There's an App for That!" is open to incoming 9-12th graders. Also new this year is Web Dezign Gizmozz for Technokidzz" which will be open to incoming 6-9th graders.

July 16-20, 2012 | Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The $350 fee includes textbook, software, field trip, and all lunches and snacks. Limited need-based scholarships will be available to students who otherwise might not be able to participate.

Online registration is now available for students who wish to pay by check.

Summer Writing Workshop

Young Writers' Studio I (GRADES 7-9)

Young Writers' Studio II (GRADES 10-12)

Back by POPULAR DEMAND!This workshop is designed and led by UMR’s own award-winning author, Yuko Taniguchi.

Designed and led by UMR's own award-winning authors, Yuko Taniguchi and Bronson Lemer, these camps offer an educational and creative opportunity for students entering grades 7-12 who seek new challenges and artistic exploration through the study of creative writing.

The camp's primary goal is to encourage young adults to explore various writing styles and processes to discover their unique voice. Students will not only receive feedback from the instructors, but they will also learn to become a constructive editor themselves by participating in peer review sessions. Students in grades 10-12 will also get practice and feedback on writing their college admission essays!

July 23–27, 2012 | Monday - Friday | 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM
The $325 fee includes all materials, guest lectures, field trips, lunches, and snacks.

UMR CONNECTS strives to support the University's overall mission of public engagement and outreach by fostering connections between the University, its students, and those who live in or visit our community. Following a specific theme each month, this weekly showcase will connect you to speakers, authors, panels, etc. on a variety of engaging topics. About CEPD

Continuing Education and Professional Development (CEPD) programming at the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) is focused on accelerating the knowledge and skills of professionals in a variety of fields. Programming is enhanced by extending University of Minnesota system resources to Southeastern Minnesota. Through our Outreach offerings, we hope to stimulate the minds of lifelong learners while they explore new topics and new ideas.

The majority of CEPD programs offered are designed to cover the topic and material for a specific audience. Continuing Education and Professional Development staff can work with businesses and organizations to design programs to meet special needs. Working through the College of Continuing Education, UMR can also award CEU credits.

Over the past year through Outreach and CEPD Offerings, UMR has served more than 5,000 people and presented more than 75 programs in the areas of: business, technology, social work, aging & wellness, politics/government, medicine, law, human resources, transportation, environment, public health, and alternative energy sources.

UMR also has corporate training and meeting space available at affordable prices. There is high speed wireless internet capability throughout the entire building and most rooms are equipped with a built-in LCD projector, computer, VCR/DVD player, and document camera.
