BICB Research Symposium
June 26, 2009

Leighton Auditorium
Mayo Clinic - Siebens Building
Rochester, Minnesota

The University of Minnesota Rochester Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology (BICB) Program will be holding a Research Symposium on Friday, June 26, 2009 in Rochester, MN. The purpose of this event is to:

  • Broaden areas of BICB research and provide an opportunity for students, researchers and faculty to meet, communicate interests, and exchange ideas that could lead to collaborative research projects
  • Report on results of 2007-08 BICB seed grants (research talks)
  • Facilitate seed grant team dialog (i.e., "face-to-face" project discussion time)

This BICB Research Symposium will bring together teams of scientists and administrators from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMTC), the University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR), the Hormel Institute, the Mayo Clinic, and IBM, as well as other researchers working in the field of biomedical informatics and computational biology. The scope of this event is to facilitate further collaborations in the area of biomedical informatics and computational biology.

The morning session of the BICB Research Symposium will cover a brief status of the BICB Program. Speakers from each of the five BICB seed grant teams will give research talks followed by discussion on the work that was funded by the 2007-08 Collaborative Seed Grant Program. Over the noon hour, lunch will be provided and participants will be given the opportunity to review displays provided by institutions/centers that are involved in BICB related activities.

The afternoon breakout sessions will bring together faculty and researchers from the University of Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic, IBM and the Hormel Institute to meet and share scientific interests. In addition, the current BICB seed grant teams will be given the opportunity to meet with their team for project discussion.

The BICB Research Symposium will convene at 10:00 am in the Leighton Auditorium at the Mayo Clinic in downtown Rochester (2nd floor of Siebens Building). If you are planning to drive to the Symposium, you can find parking at public ramps near the Mayo Clinic. Map of the Mayo Clinic in downtown Rochester, including parking ramps (PDF file).
